Dianne K Webb
I am a conceptual abstract oil painter, writer, and theater director. At present, I am working on several series of oil and mixed media paintings, revising a literary novel, and moving into the greater Houston theater scene.
I am preoccupied with the experience of self-awareness, of awakening new ideas and thoughts within our psyches, of visually bringing to the surface that which we often do not see or consider.
I believe that art is a dance, a communication between artist and viewer...a statement laid bare until picked up and incorporated into a new narrative. As I work, I want to find myself exploring new perspectives—I want to feel uneasy, jarred, contemplative, or reflective as images, colors, textures clash or meld. I am fascinated by the moment of “ah ha!” Of “oh, shit!” of “really?” My work seeks to capture those moments and translate them conceptually, abstractly on the canvas or three-dimensional surface.
I was born in Maine, and am the middle generation of three generations of visual, literary, healing, and performing artists. I hold a BA/BS in the Behavior Sciences and an MFA. I presently write and paint in my home studio and at Studio 33 at the Winter Street Studios in Houston, Texas.
